Flood Advisory issued May 31 at 3:59AM CDT until May 31 at 8:00AM CDT by NWS Topeka KS * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of east central Kansas, including the following counties, Anderson, Coffey, Franklin, Lyon and Osage. * WHEN...Until 800 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Rises in small streams. Overflowing poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 358 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Garnett, Osage City, Burlington, Lyndon, Lebo, Americus, Waverly, Colony, Williamsburg, New Strawn, Melvern, Hartford, Gridley, Neosho Rapids, Reading, Allen, Westphalia, Admire, Kincaid and Olivet. - This includes the following highways... Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 131 and 149. Interstate 35 between mile markers 134 and 172. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
