Special Weather Statement issued May 27 at 5:17AM EDT by NWS Buffalo NY Thunderstorms this afternoon will have an elevated risk of becoming strong to severe. This will especially be the case after 2 PM for the Eastern Lake Ontario region where some storms could produce wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Along with the risk for severe weather...primarily in the form of damaging straight line winds...most thunderstorms will contain torrential downpours. Those generating an inch or two of rain in under an hours time could produce localized flooding...especially in urban areas and in areas with elevated terrain.
