Flood Watch issued June 20 at 2:34PM CDT until June 22 at 1:00PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA An increasing risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding is anticipated over far northern Iowa Friday evening and overnight. Though storms may be ongoing Friday afternoon, the heaviest rainfall is expected late Friday evening to around dawn Saturday morning. Some uncertainty remains as to the exact axis of heaviest rainfall, but current indications are that the heaviest rainfall will be nearer the Iowa Minnesota border. Review flooding safety plans now and be prepared if you must take action. * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest Iowa, including the following counties, in north central Iowa, Cerro Gordo, Hancock, Kossuth, Winnebago and Worth. In northwest Iowa, Emmet and Palo Alto. * WHEN...From Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Expected rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts are possible. Rapid rises in creeks, streams and urban flooding will be possible. Field flooding and washed out county roads will also be possible. Rainfall rates may approach 2 inches per hour in the heavier storms. Nighttime flooding is especially dangerous due to the lack of light and visibility of impacts.
