Heat Advisory issued June 17 at 11:10AM EDT until June 21 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Pittsburgh PA * WHAT...Heat index values of 100 to 104 expected. * WHERE...Portions of east central Ohio, northwest, southwest, and western Pennsylvania, and northern and the northern panhandle of West Virginia. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement issued June 17 at 6:00PM EDT by NWS Pittsburgh PA At 559 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Ford City to near Homer City to Lawson Heights to near Scottdale to West Liberty. Movement was southeast at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. The strongest wind will likely occur ahead of any rain. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Washington, Uniontown, Latrobe, Connellsville, Waynesburg, Homer City, West Liberty, Triadelphia, Clearview, Valley Grove, Monessen, California, Donora, Mount Pleasant, Scottdale, Charleroi, Masontown, McChesneytown-Loyalhanna, Blairsville, and Youngwood. This includes the following highways... Interstate 70 in West Virginia between mile markers 9 and 14. Interstate 70 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 0 and 50, near mile marker 52, and between mile markers 55 and 57. Pennsylvania Turnpike between mile markers 75 and 99. Interstate 79 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 7 and 38. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service office in Pittsburgh.
